For the 100 years of the Yellow Jersey, you join the legendary French brand Le Coq Sportif. What does it mean for you?
Quentin Lafargue: Le Coq Sportif is a reference in the world of sports and maybe even more in cycling with whole the different jerseys of the Tour de France. The Yellow Jersey is a true mark of cycling and it’s great to begin the partnership with such an event.
How did the brand and you meet?
QL: Just after the World Championships, my team and I made contact with different brands. Le Coq Sportif became quickly a priority. Beyond the brand name it is the state of mind and common values that brought us closer. We met the leaders and quickly began discussions that led to this great partnership.
What to you look for in this new partnership?
QL: In the world of sports, it’s a true recognition to be a Coq Sportif ambassador. I’m very pleased to join the group of athletes that the brand supports. I’m going to have the opportunity to meet many other athletes and to benefit from their support.
On the brand side, what made them decide to support you and to offer you an ambassador’s role?
QL: It’s not so easy to answer for them but I think we share the same vision on performance and sports in France. They already support road cycling on the Tour and other competitions. Recently Axelle Etienne, a young BMX athlete has also joined them. A track cyclist in the team rounds off the cycling team.
For the next competitions will you be wearing their outfits? For instance during the French Championships in mid-August?
QL: At the moment, it’s a « Lifestyle » partnership. I’ll be wearing their brand during all my public appearances. During competitions, I respect my commitments with other partners who appear on my jersey. The French Championships are too early and don’t leave us time to prepare for a new model on time.
